Highway 101 improvement

The many people who have been advocating more twinning of Highway 101 will be unhappy to hear that the highway 101 improvement project announced today is only for passing lanes. But at least it is “shovel ready”. The Premier and the PM himself have said so. We aren’t sure that twinning is the answer anyway and certainly the stretch west of Coldbrook needs passing lanes.

Under the $17.5 million project announced today, new passing lanes will be constructed on the stretch of highway between Coldbrook and Kingston. Of this amount, up to $6.75 million will be funded by the Government of Canada through the Major Infrastructure Component of the Building Canada Fund.

Upgrading Highway 101 is one of many job-creating investments contained within the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
