Grants In Lieu

Acadia University residences are exempt from property taxes. For years the Town of Wolfville has been complaining of this and has given this as one reason for the continuing increases in our taxes. While we are
glad to hear that the long-standing attempts to raise the grants-in-lieu may be at last successful, are we to expect that this will at last result in a decrease in our taxes? Not according to our Mayor.  In an Advertiser interview, published May 3, he is reported to have said that Town Council has yet to determined (sic) which of its many priorities will receive additional support. In other words he expects this $80,000 to be spent
not used for tax relief for either residents or the few remaining businesses in town. Should we expect a 16 page newsletter next time round? And perhaps in colour?
