Merry -ahem- Christmas

Looks like some of the light standards in Wolfville have been decked with new “white” LED lights not the old dull blue ones.
So now we have a mixed bag, some blue, some not which looks a trifle
odd. Have to say the “white” ones look nicer but we can bet there was a
cost.

We must be thankful that there are angels and carolers and stars included in the display. Elsewhere there is controversy no matter what you do.

Like a politically correct creche – The ACLU Solstice Barn.  More and better pictures here.

And a storm over Christmas trees

Update: In Ontario too!

At Queen’s Park we celebrated
Diwali a few weeks ago, as well at Queen’s Park we celebrated Eid. Next
week I believe I’m participating in a lighting of the menorah
celebration.”

“What we’re saying is, let’s share in those opportunities, let’s better understand those celebrations.”

McGuinty’s comments followed a decision earlier in the week by
Toronto Justice Marion Cohen to order a small decorated tree removed
from the lobby of the Ontario Court of Justice to an out-of-the-way
corridor.

Cohen felt the tree was a Christian symbol that would make non-Christians attending the courthouse feel unwelcome.

In a letter to staff Tuesday, she defended the order while acknowledging “that many people are upset with my decision.”

“I am aware the Christmas tree has been placed in the front lobby at Christmas time for many years,” Cohen wrote.

“I do not think it appropriate that when the clients of our court
enter our courthouse, the first thing they see is a Christian symbol.

HUH! What is particularly Christian about a Christmas tree? It’s
origins are pagan actually. Perhaps Ms Cohen is thinking of Jeremiah…

Jeremiah 10:2-4, “Thus saith the Lord,
learn not the way of the heathen; and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven.
For the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are
vain. For one cutteth a tree out of the forest. The work of the hands of
the workman with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold. They
fasten it with nails and with hammers that it move not.”

Updated again: Poor Ms Cohen. People are not at all happy with her decision.

The story is getting a lot of comment.
